Arrived in Lausanne on Sunday afternoon, Dec 15th exhausted and spent a recuperative night at the Carlton Hotel, nearby my apartment in the Ouchy neighborhood. Access to my appartment was secured early Monday afternoon. And thus commenced the processing of settling in.
My apartment is surprisingly spacious and furnished a couple of grades above utilitarian The Ouchy neighborhood is quiet. There is a Coop supermarket a 1/2 block away and the M2 Metro line is about a 3 minute walk. From the M2 Metro, I can circumnavigate Lausanne. My rent includes a weekly cleaning service and weekly change of bedding and towels. Yet to secured: a laundary service, a yoga studio and gym...immediate priority is laundary service. Most service facilities appear to be closing for Christmas week, so I will defer the gym and yoga until after Susan and Mark depart on Dec 26th. (see separate post on Susan and Mark's visit in my first week in Lausanne)
After a week here, I am becoming acustom to living with a different footprint. I have walked more in the past week than the past six months (good for my quads for the pending ski season.) I am adjusting to living without a disposal, a washer/dryer or a regular sized refrigerator. Food shopping is a daily event; my micro refrigerator is capacity limited.
The Lausannois are friendly and helpful, tolerant to my currently primative French.
And thus I start my 2nd week with a firm conviction that Lausanne is the right place as my home base for this adventure.
excuse me!!! you are on the ground floor, non? that is the most beautifully composed photo from the Swiss Travel Board, non? well done.
