The 183 km (about 114 miles) from Chur to Interlaken via the Furka Pass is neither the fastest nor the most direct route. Long intrigued by the legendary scenes of the steep serpentine roadway through the pass (James Bond in Goldfinger), I opted for what I anticipated to be a leisurely cruise.
It turnout to be a trifecta of mountain pass (and a continuous challenge of hairpin turns). To reach Andermatt and mount the Furka Pass, I first encountered the Oberall Pass (2046 m). From Andermatt, the Furka Pass rises to 2436 m. And from the southern terminus of the Furka Pass to reach Interlaken and the Bernese Oberland, there is the Grimselpass (2165 m) to navigate.
The nav system indicated it would take 2 hrs and 30 minutes. I took nearly double that and arrived in Interlaken, tired but happy.
