Bernese Oberland

After 4 days of driving and 3 one nighters (Genoa, Lugano and Chur), I was ready to slow down the pace. I spent the first day in Interlaken walking. It was a sunny Sunday. Most of the shops were closed so I could successful window shop and refrain from buying yet another watch. As the day progressed, temperatures cooled clearly announcing the the continued onset of Fall. I finished the day with fondue for dinner or more accurately the fondue finished me for the day.

Interlaken is a gateway. After considering my Swiss road map, I decided a circuit to Gryeres and Gstaad (2 places I had not visites since my boarding school days in the 1960's) would be doable in a couple of hours. My nav system did not agree as kept me routed in circumnavigation hades at Spiez for about an hour, then sent me via a back route (Jaunpass) to Gryeres. The parking lot for foot access to Gryeres was overflowing and it was getting to mid afternoon, so I opted to push on to Gstaad. The nav system routed me through Chateau d'Oex (sweet memories of many Villa ski outings here in the 1960's). It was definitely off season in Gstaad. I walked the main pedestrian promenade, had a coffee and recalled a short lived Gstaad relationship from my boarding school years.

Final day in Interlaken. I have a Covid test scheduled with a private doctor about 15 kms east of Interlaken. I no long trust the car's nav system. I arrive on time using Google maps. In about a 1/2 hour I have a printed report indicating I am negative so I can fly to Vienna. The morning is still young so I decide despite the weather to drive up to Grindelwald. The Jungfraujoch never disappoints.

Back to the hotel. Packed for an early departure in the morning. A bientôt Switzerland.
